The story of Vinod Gupta is an inspiring one. Not only is this many a highly accomplished entrepreneur that started his own company with nothing and turned it into a multi-million dollar corporation, but he has worked hard to give back to the community and build schools throughout his home country.

What makes his story truly interesting is that Vinod was truly the underdog being born in the 1940’s in a very poor village in India. With the limited opportunities and the widespread poverty, most citizens were lucky if they had a decent education. Nevertheless, Vinod Gupta was determined and always had ideas going for what he was going to do with his life.

Shortly after Vinod Gupta moved to the United States, he was already making the move to start off his own company and make a successful living. Vinod Gupta spent less than a year at Commodore Corporation before founding InfoUSA, a leading research company that compiled lists of service providers and other companies from around the country.

In 2010, InfoUSA was worth a whopping 680 million dollars and he was happy to sell off the company. After more than 40 years in business as the company owner, Vinod was bittersweet about selling off his company, but it also allows him to focus more on philanthropy.

Since the start of his career, Vinod has been an active philanthropist, donating to charities and finding ways to help back home as well in India. He has made million-dollar donations to his former college in India, I.I.T. Kharagpur. On top of this, he has funded the development of schools and school programs throughout India to bring a better education to many underprivileged children.
